Applicant Criteria. Needs-based scholarship awards shall be provided to persons who meet the following criteria: ______________________ • Applicant shall be African-American and citizen of the United States; • Applicant must prove a financial need; the criteria and method of proving financial need shall be determined by the Scholarship Board (FAFSA application); • Applicant shall have a 3.0 Grade Point Average or higher for their current and prior two school years (or their final GPA from High School) if they are beginning their Freshman year at Oakland University, Auburn Hills, MI.; • Please write a 500 word essay for the appropriate corresponding year entitled: Year 2022: Tell us about a time you failed and what did you learn from it. Year 2023: How have you contributed to your community? Year 2024: Why do you deserve this scholarship? • Applicant must be a student in the School of Business Administration; • Applicant shall present transcripts showing their prior educational grades and documentation of their experience and achievements, and a copy of the letter of acceptance from the University or other documentation indicating they are a student in good standing at Oakland University. • Applicants must submit an application containing personal information required by the Scholarship Board, by signing this application you acknowledge and give permission to the Scholarship Board to have full access to your Oakland University academic and financial records, including but not limited to amounts the recipient student owes to the University, how it is paid, record of payment dates and deficiencies, and any reimbursements and refunds the University provides recipients; • Applicants who have not reimbursed this Trust for awards which they no longer qualify for (as determined at the sole discretion of the Board) shall not be eligible to request awards in the future until non-reimbursed award money is returned to the Scholarship Trust. • Applicant can only receive a total of $5,000.00 per year from the Scholarship Fund, but may re-apply each year. Terms of the Scholarship Award ______________________ Scholarship awards shall be paid directly to Oakland University, Auburn Hills, MI and may be used for tuition and other University fees. Undergraduate or Graduate students may be awarded Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000) per year. Any award funds not used to pay tuition or University fees at Oakland University, Auburn Hills, MI shall be returned to the Trust. If the recipient student withdraws from class resulting in a revised tuition amount that is less than the award amount already paid (specifically taking into consideration other scholarships, grants and loans the student has used to pay the tuition with, this scholarship is to be refunded first) the difference in the two amounts must be returned to the Scholarship Trust. Scholar must maintain 3.0 GPA requirement to re-apply.
